Fashion Meets Function: Blake Brody In-Studio Footwear

You only need to slip once in barre class to know that proper footwear is a must. That’s what inspired Blake Brody to create shoes that are designed specifically for yoga, pilates and barre. Her chic and eco-friendly collection of In-Studio Footwear is both functional and fashionable. With significant traction to prevent falls, the soft, breathable shoes allow for a full range of natural motion; critical during strenuous in-studio classes. The split soles and padded arches add comfort and stability, letting fitness enthusiasts focus on their form and movement.

Brody’s line is also environmentally conscious, constructed of vegan materials that are anti-microbial and odor resistant. The ballerina inspired collection features a range of styles in neutral and vibrant colors, with decorative side panels and metallic accents. In fact, celebs like Denise Richards are huge fans of the line for its innovative design and sophisticated look.

I was more than excited to try out my pair of Blake Brody shoes at Exhale Spa in Santa Monica, CA. A barre fanatic myself, I too had experienced an embarrassing slip during the painful but beneficial chair position in a recent class. Upon entering the studio, I immediately received compliments on my shoes. (My Jennifer flats are so cute, I’ve even thought about wearing them as regular shoes!)

Fashion aside, from warm ups to wind down, my Blake Brody shoes provided incredible support during the 60-minute Core Fusion Barre class. I was in complete control during thigh and seat work at the bar, allowing me to concentrate on perfecting my form. Lunges and standing stretches were a breeze. The grips on the soles did provide more resistance than typical barre socks during core exercises (i.e.; flat back), but it forced me to work harder and achieve a more intense workout. And the best part, the performance mesh technology helped to keep my tootsies cool when the instructor picked up the pace. By the end of a demanding class, everything on my body was sweating – except for my feet!

What to Wear to a Class Reunion: eHow Style Video

Whether your 5th or 40th class reunion is coming up, figuring out what to wear can always be a daunting task.  The biggest mistake you can make when dressing for this occasion is selecting clothing that you’re not comfortable in.  The most important thing is to showcase your personality and style, and it doesn’t matter if it’s vastly different from your high school or college persona!  From casual to formal class reunions, select a few simple items to create an outfit that is comfy, stylish and chic, and not to mention, the best representation of you!  And remember, the best accessory is confidence – so stand tall and proud…and smile!

Here are some sophisticated wardrobe choices for any class reunion:

1)  LBD:  You can’t go wrong with a little black dress!

2)  Knee length dress:  Solid colors and refined prints are best.  Opt for a style that fits and flatters your figure, such as a sheath or a-line skirt.

3)  Slim pants:  Depending on how formal the event is, slim black pants or dark denim are great options that can be easily dressed up with a blouse, heels, and pretty jewelry.

4)  Blazer:  Pair this classic piece with everything from a floral dress to pants and a silk tank.

I recently shot a Style video for eHow.com, with a classic and fabulous option for a casual 40th class reunion.  Just because the invitation says casual doesn’t mean your look has to be frumpy!  Watch it by clicking here.

Good Dresses for Traveling: eHow Style Video

The summer travel season is officially upon us!  But before we head to distant lands for some much deserved R&R, we need to do a little prep work – the most important being to pack a well stocked and versatile wardrobe!

Womens-Traveling-Tips-Packing-Light-riseofreason.net

Here are some tips to keep in mind when packing for your upcoming vacation:

1) Pack clothing and accessories that are versatile.  Jeans, nice shorts, skirts, and good fitting dresses (short or maxi) are great travel options that can be dressed up or down.  Solid color tanks, tees and blouses are also smart choices.

2) Create multiple outfits by mixing and matching your items.  For example, wear a dress with flat sandals for day and when night falls, swap them out for sexy heels and jewelry.

3) Select items that travel well, are breathable and don’t wrinkle easily.  Cottons, knits, poly-blends, and silk jersey are best.

A Day On Set:  Access Hollywood

The Access Hollywood segments that I shot for DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse aired over the last two weeks…and I just had to thank everyone for watching and for all your sweet comments!  It’s always a blast working with the adorable and fun loving Kit Hoover, and of course, sharing all the latest trends at amazing prices from my friends at DSW Shoes!

DSCF3392

In the first segment, we dished about the hottest spring shoe trends.  It’s all about Modern Romance, with shoes and accessories with lots of flirty and feminine details.  Floral prints of all sizes are a must have, while dainty bows and ruffles add a sweet touch to more simple styles.  Pastels are also a refreshing way to kick off the spring season!

The second segment was my personal favorite!  With the summer travel months ahead, there’s nothing like adding a little Global Inspiration to your wardrobe!  With bold colors, graphic prints, and lots of beading and embellishments, you can feel like you’ve travelled the world just by putting on a fabulous pair of shoes!  Wedges and sandals are perfect for summertime, both being versatile and stylish!

Oscars 2013 Best Dressed

Last night’s Oscars telecast was reminiscent of Old Hollywood, an era of classic films and refined style.  The stars were aligned for Tinseltown’s best talent, as they graced the red carpet with beauty and grace.  With so many impeccably dressed celebs, it was difficult to narrow down my favorites.  Here is my Oscars 2013 Best Dressed List – chime in below to let me know if your faves made the cut!

1C457169 Oscars13_halle-berry_versace jimmy choo2

Halle Berry wowed in a custom, art-deco inspired gown by Versace.  The former bond girl rocked this sexy look from head to toe, from her absolutely perfect pixie hair cut down to her fab Jimmy Choo shoes.

162536888 Oscars13-Jessica-Chastain-Giorgio Armani Christian Louboutin2

Jessica Chastain was ethereal in a nude metallic, strapless Armani Prive gown with a sweetheart neckline.  Her Harry Winston jewels, side swept hair and Christian Louboutin heels were perfect accents to complete her glamorous look.

1C458ECF Oscars13-Jennifer Garner-Gucci Brian Atwood4

Jennifer Garner was breathtaking in a custom gown by Gucci.  The deep plum hue was a beautiful pop of color, while her vintage Neil Lane necklace and cascading ruffles added a bit of drama to this elegant ensemble.

1C4567EF 161315075TM00448_85th_Annua

Charlize Theron was effortlessly chic in a winter white gown by Dior Haute Couture.  The statuesque star turned heads on the red carpet, showing off a shorter hair do and a dazzling Harry Winston diamond cuff.

1C455DD9 Oscars2013_amy_adams-Oscar de la Renta

One of the few ball gowns on the Oscars red carpet, Amy Adams was pretty as a princess in a powder blue Oscar de la Renta dress.  The strapless bodice and dramatic skirt looked perfect on the petite star, while her simple updo and jewels were just enough to not overpower her romantic ensemble.

Oscars13 Stacy Kiebler-Naeem Khan Lorraine Schwartz2 Oscars13 Stacy Kiebler-Naeem Khan Lorraine Schwartz4

Stacy Kiebler was flawless in a jaw dropping, gun metal Naeem Khan gown.  The metallic beading, belted waist and sheer back showcased her incredible figure.  The question remains though, which was Stacy’s best accessory – her Lorraine Schwartz jewels or George Clooney?

Honorable Mention

While the above stars made my official Oscars 2013 best dressed, I just had to mention the following ladies too!

1C457332

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive

Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton
